Louie's Lunch, remember that name, not McDonalds, is the originator of the Hamburger in the U.S. In 1900, Louie Lassen had a new idea, the steak sandwich. But not wanting to waste the scraps, he chopped them up, shaped it into a patty, and made the American Hamburger. The forth genereation of Lassens still serve them today. Visit them at Louie's Lunch, 263 Crown St. New Haven 562-5507. By the way, the building is in the National Registry of Historic Places. In Glastonbury - Rocky Hill, is the 3 car ferry that has been in operation since 1655. Although is saves about 10 miles of driving, the main attraction is taking your bike (car) out onto the river on the small barge. The ferry operates daily May to Oct and costs about $2.25. 860.563.9758 Lime Rock is the only racetrack in Connecticut, and the oldest in the Northeast. Since 1957, the track has been hosting events, car shows, etc, on it's manicured lawns that are perfect for picnicking. Recently the track has seen major renovations, and more well known drivers are showing up there. The track is open April to November on Rt 112 in Lakeville. (860.435.5000) |
