Giant Sequoia
(para-phrased from Yankee Magazine)
A giant Sequoia, in Rhode Island? Isn't that a bit more typical of the west coast? Well ... yes, this century old, 90 foot tree is the largest of it's kind this side of the rockies. The Blithewold Mansion and gardens, not only has the Sequoia, but also a Chinese weeping pagoda tree that dates back to 1876.
At 101 Ferry St. in Bristol, the grounds are open daily from mid-April to Labor Day.

Ocean View Drive
(para-phrased from Boston Globe)
In Newport, you slow down and take a ride that is not, your usual, are-we-there-yet, destination orientated ride. Along Ocean View Drive, is 8 miles of mansions, beaches, private clubs, and farms. This series of streets hug the coastline, and provide plenty of opportunities to get off and enjoy the sights. Fort Adams, the site of the summer jazz and folk festivals, and Brenton Point State Park, are perfect for slowing down and enjoying the view of the bay, bridge and the lighthouse.
