IC-706 Mobile

by C.Gustave Sandberg W1CGS

A high Sierra Sidekick motorized antenna mounted to a mobile antenna support device ('04 Civic).

The operating position of the mobile supporting device.

The IC-706 Control head occupying the spot where a small storage area was.
The original door was un-ceremoniously removed and the mounting plate just happened to fit the opening exactly.
Velco is used to hold the mounting bracket onto the dash.

The IC-706 Main unit mounted to the side wall in the trunk.
The mounting bracket is attached to the fiber board trunk liner using bolts and fender washers on the back side.
This provides a bit of vibration isolation from the car.
The grounding strap from the antenna, is routed to the car frame and the ground screw of the '706.
Hidden from view, are two clamp-on ferrite beads on the power wires. This helped keep some of the computer noise from the car from reaching the radio.

A detail of the antenna mount with grounding to the support frame of the trunck lid.
This then continues down to the car frame as shown above.
The ferrite bead around the antenna motor wires was moved a few inches so it would clear the trunk gasket.

The control box for the Sidekick antenna has been modified to switch the '706 into tune mode whenever the up/down switch is activated.
