Yankee Bike Lift
Constucting a Bike Lift to work on the 'Truda.
Mike reprinted this from a previous session on Intruder Alert Message Board.
If you know the originator, please send me the info so I can give proper credit

A plywood box and a helper is all that is needed.

I have just built it and have added my comments (in italics) to the text..

Get some 3/4 inch plywood, and make a box with the following dimensions;
7-1/2" wide x 18" long x 7" high.
(The height is the critical one!)
This height will lift the front tire off the ground by a good ways. I'm looking at maybe a lower height, but it could be just my bike.
This box is strong enough to support the bike when you work on the front end or do other work to it.
Now... How do you get it on the stand? There is an easy trick to that.
With the side stand down, and on a solid surface (like a garage floor),
place your foot on the bottom of the stand, right on the part that contacts the floor,(be sure it is solid)!
Grab the handle bars and PULLL the bars toward you. The front end is levered up into the air.
Don't worry, the side stand can take the weight, and even a small person can muster the leverage to pick up the front end like this.
Once it's up in the air, have a friend slide the box under the foot peg bracket.
Note the box is under the big bracket that holds the front foot pegs, do NOT put in under the engine casing.
Make sure you don't slide it under too far, the kick stand hinge and springs stick down below the level of the bracket.
Slowly lower the bike onto the box.
You now have a level and secure 'Truda, ready for the next adventure in customizing / repair.
This didn't lift the rear wheel up but it does expose the oil plug... more to come.
